Fact: Goldfish do not live very long. And it can be distressing for all members of the family when they pass away. To avoid undergoing similar trauma in the future, we suggest a more robust pet in the form of Pleo. Pleo is a one week-old Camarasaurus from the Jurassic period. Obviously, his resurrection has less to do with DNA and more to do with modern technology. You see, Pleo is a robot. But DO NOT confuse him with other robots available. Goodness, no. Pleo is a marvel. Indeed, each Pleo has a unique personality that develops based on Pleo's life experiences with you. He interacts with you and autonomously explores and responds to the world around him.

He can feel many emotions, including joy, sorrow and anger, and even dreams when he falls asleep. 'How is this all possible?' you ask. Well, Pleo has a sophisticated sensory system made up of a colour camera, sound sensors, two infrared sensors, 14 motors, over 100 gears, eight touch sensors, and an orientation sensor. These devices enable Pleo to hear, to see, to sense touch, and to detect objects. Simple really.

IR Communication: Infrared Transmitters and Receivers enable Pleos to interact and identify each other.
Infrared Interrupter: Allows Pleo to detect when something is being placed inside his mouth.
Chin Touch Sensor: Triggered by touch and allows Pleo to "feel"
Front Speaker: Enables Pleo to communicate via honks, hoots and other natural sounds.
NiMH Rechargeable Battery: Battery level indicator allows Pleo to know when his battery is low and requires charging - at this you will see Pleo is very tired.
Tilt and Shake Sensors: Allows Pleo to know his orientation. He'll know if he has fallen over or is being held upside down.
Ground Sensors: Allow Pleo to know if he is on firm ground or if he has been picked up.
Leg Touch Sensors: Triggered by touch and allow Pleo to "feel".
Motor Force Feedback Sensors: Motors are sensitive to forceful grabs to Pleo's legs, neck, tail and torso and shut down during such trauma to avoid internal damage. Pleo will react to being hurt and may exhibit a limp.
Rear Touch Sensors: Triggered by touch and allow Pleo to "feel"
Shoulder Touch Sensors: Triggered by touch and allow Pleo to "feel"
Binaural Microphones: Left and right microphones enable stereophonic hearing. Through this feature Pleo can detect sound direction and loudness from both ears.
Colour Camera with white light sensor: This is the core feature of Pleo's navigational or vision system. From this camera Pleo may detect bright light from dark, see colours, detect motion, detect objects in front of him and track their movement.
Head Touch Sensor: Triggered by touch and allow Pleo to "feel".
Rear Speaker: Enables Pleo to communicate via honks, hoots and other natural sounds.

Additional Information:

Every Pleo is autonomous. Yes, each one begins life as a newly-hatched baby Camarasaurus, but that's where predictability ends and individuality begins.
Emotions Pleo will display: Happy and Curious, Playful and Lively, Scared and Surprised, Sad and Vexed.
Responds to sound, light and touch - Pleo experiences the world through his senses.
Like any creature Pleo feels hunger and fatigue-offset by powerful urges to explore and be nurtured. He'll graze, nap, and toddle about on his own-when he feels like it.
With a playful honk or a pesky tug, Pleo lets you know that he craves attention or food.
Pleo will evolve over time from behaviour which resembles that of a new born hatchling, through to infant and then a juvenile. His experiences will shape his development.
